Bear or Memobound for an Apple notebook
Bear is an Apple-focused Markdown notes app with local access and optional iCloud sync through Bear Pro. Memobound focuses on notebook documents you open and manage in Files.
At a glance
| Consideration | Bear | Memobound beta |
|---|---|---|
| Local access | Local notes available without Pro | Local notebook documents |
| Apple sync | iCloud sync with Bear Pro | Optional iCloud Drive document storage |
| Portability | Markdown and TextBundle among its export formats | TextBundle working documents and readable exports |
When Bear fits
Bear is a strong choice if you like its Markdown editor and tag-based organization. It already supports portable exports, so leaving an account-based notebook is not a feature unique to Memobound.
When Memobound fits
Memobound fits when folders in Files are how you want to organize, move, and back up the working notebook. Add scans, drawings, recordings, and files to the same document collection. Optional iCloud Drive uses the same storage decision as your other Apple documents.
Try an export before changing routines
Export a small group as TextBundle or Markdown with attachments. Inspect tags, dates, and links in the destination. Keep the Bear library and a separate export until the new workflow has been tested. Memobound pricing has not been announced, so this is not a price-saving claim.
